The person who directs the operation of trains and engines in a yard. The yardmaster reports to the trainmaster and the switch crews report to him. Train crews in the yard will also report to him. The yardmaster is responsible for safe and efficient switching in the yard, making sure the right cars get on the right trains, at the right time.
