An interlocking that clears a route through it automatically. Each route has a track occupancy circuit in advance of the interlocking and the first train to activate/occupy its advance route is cleared through the interlocking. Dispatchers cannot clear a route through an automatic interlocking, it the crossing will not clear, the crew has to follow directions posted at the interlocking to proceed.
