Putting a train or cut into or getting a train out of two or more tracks. If a train or cut is too long for a track, the train will fill one track, then uncouple the cut, and put the remainder in another track. Similarly if a train is made up in two or more tracks, typically because it is longer than one track, the crew will couple into the head end portion, pull it out of the track, then couple to the rear portion in a different track. Doubling over may involve more than two tracks. It is very common in smaller and older yards.
